Here is a GTM that we can use for the Medication Stream https://global.gotomeeting.com/join/610966045.
Virginia Lorenzi (Jan 20 2017 at 15:23):
why does the definition of MedicationRequest say This is a medication prescription?
Scott Robertson (Jan 20 2017 at 15:26):
MedicationRequest was originally called MedicationOrder. This is the representation of the order/prescription ... typically from prescriber to pharmacy
Lloyd McKenzie (Jan 20 2017 at 15:28):
Definition should reflect that it can also include plans, proposals . . .
Virginia Lorenzi (Jan 20 2017 at 15:31):
Confused just cause in US I think of creating order using HL7 and prescription for the order in NCPDP script.
Melva Peters (Jan 20 2017 at 15:32):
there are aliases that say prescription and order.
Scott Robertson (Jan 20 2017 at 15:33):
this is where FHIR nomenclature doesn't reflect typical business nomenclature
Scott Robertson (Jan 20 2017 at 15:35):
in eRx applications, generally, order and prescription have specific meanings. however order and prescription are interchangeable generally ... and the use of 'request' should not be a significant issue for implementers
Virginia Lorenzi (Jan 20 2017 at 15:36):
Makes sense - might need some clarifications sometimes in the US.
Virginia Lorenzi (Jan 20 2017 at 15:41):
MedicationRequest - if its just a tablet or a premixed IV no need for Medication resource most likely - if its an iv or piggyback any medication which is put together by multiple parts by the pharmacist you'd have the MedicationRequest reference Medication, right?
Melva Peters (Jan 20 2017 at 16:07):
@Virginia Lorenzi Yes, that's true. We have guidance in the material that describes when you should consider using a reference rather than a code. There are examples that include both types.
Virginia Lorenzi (Jan 20 2017 at 17:32):
I wanted to create a medication request that was an IV form with an intravenous route of administration and method = push and body site = left arm. But I couldn't add dosage instructions in the scenario builder so I couldnt do those fun things
David Hay (Jan 20 2017 at 17:54):
@Virginia Lorenzi - see my comment to melva. A limitation right now I'm afraid. To be addressed...
