Stream: clinFHIR
Topic: Homework from March webinar
Dave deBronkart (Mar 19 2019 at 20:34):
For those who don't know, we're just ending session 1 of the two-day course by David Hay, "HL7 FHIR for Clinicians, Managers and Executives" ... there will be homework, and attendees have been invited to discuss here.
Course participants: the thing that stymied me about this app is that I couldn't find a button or link in the Streams list to start a new thread! I was looking in the wrong place - at bottom of screen it's in pale pale PALE gray (I hate vague UI!) - look for this: pasted image
David Hay (Mar 19 2019 at 20:35):
Thnaks Dave...
Dave deBronkart (Mar 19 2019 at 20:36):
@David Hay I hope someone will be emailing us the link to the homework itself, because so much happened so fast that I have no clue where it is. :-)
David Hay (Mar 19 2019 at 20:37):
The slides are in the preso - slides 33 & 34 - was that what you were after?
Dave deBronkart (Mar 19 2019 at 20:37):
TRULY excellent presentation, btw. I mean EXCELLENT in all caps. We MUST MUST MUST get an "e-patient" version of this into the public's hands as soon as practical - I know patients who will drool at the chance to get ready to do FHIR work asap because their lives depend daily on it.
Grahame Grieve (Mar 19 2019 at 20:38):
That's high praise, David.
David Hay (Mar 19 2019 at 20:39):
Indeed - many thanks dave...
David Hay (Mar 19 2019 at 20:40):
BTW - some links to info about conman: (should be reasonably up to date)...
https://fhirblog.com/participating-in-a-clinical-connectathon/
https://fhirblog.com/tips-and-tricks-for-the-conman-scenario-builder/
Dave deBronkart (Mar 19 2019 at 20:41):
@David Hay For me at least, the links on both slides are not clickable. Hey, I'll paste in here.
The ConMan URL: http://conman.clinfhir.com/connectathon.html?event=hl7Webinar <==W is case sensitive!
Use ConMan to create the data for the cases on slides 33 & 34 in the PDF you were sent today.
(David, I can't copy/paste the text from those slides - can you?)
Dave deBronkart (Mar 19 2019 at 20:43):
btw, though I've been a registered chat user since November, I was unable to find clinfhir in the sidebar, so it may be useful to email everyone a short cheat-sheet on how to do it. Gotta run now -
David Hay (Mar 19 2019 at 20:44):
Exercise 1: Medication list
http://conman.clinfhir.com/connectathon.html?event=hl7Webinar
Create a simple medication list for a patient who is taking Atenolol 50mg / day and furosemide 20mg in the morning
Track: Build medication list
David Hay (Mar 19 2019 at 20:48):
Exercise 2: Consultation
Ned Little is a 5 year old boy presenting to his primary practitioner with a 3 day history of right ear pain and a high temperature. On examination a diagnosis of Otitis Media is made and he is started on a course of Amoxycillin
Track: Ambulatory Care encounter
(see slides 25 & 26 for inspiration!) - and remember that in conman, when you're building a graph there are a number of resources already set up in the palette (that's done when you define the scenario) but you can add any other resource by clicking the >Select Direct< link...
Feel free to make any comments - whether about usability, suggested updates or scenarios that could be of interest...
Dave deBronkart (Mar 19 2019 at 21:29):
Is this chat site open to the public, including people who weren't on the webinar today? Particularly, if CONMAN is open to all visitors, could my more-engaged / more-technical patient friends start diving in and exploring?
David Hay (Mar 19 2019 at 21:50):
sure - no issues. It's all public...
David Hay (Mar 19 2019 at 21:50):
No guarantee that any work will remain though. Would need to set up a separate event if you wanted that...
Dave deBronkart (Mar 20 2019 at 00:08):
My intention would just be to see if certain people started drooling :-) .... but first things first: gotta do MY homework. Now, to scroll back...
Dave deBronkart (Mar 20 2019 at 00:27):
@David Hay I clearly missed part of your demonstration today because now that I'm in CONMAN, I have no clue where to start. Is a replay of the session available? Or can you point me / us to what I missed as first steps?
I know to select the track Build a Medication List. I think. Completely lost!
David Hay (Mar 20 2019 at 00:49):
So:
select the 'build a medication list' track from the left side
select the 'graph builder' tab at the top
start selecting resources and hooking them together
I may have done a video - let me go look...
Happy to do another session (in fact we'll do a review tomorrow) ...
David Hay (Mar 20 2019 at 00:50):
@Dave deBronkart - here's a video I did a little while back: https://vimeo.com/263774117
hope that all helps!
Dave deBronkart (Mar 20 2019 at 01:09):
@David Hay Are you able to see what I'm doing? I appear to be suffering from way too few guardrails and/or way too little instruction.
Going off to watch your 12 minute Vimeo now, in hope of salvation...
Dave deBronkart (Mar 20 2019 at 01:19):
I'm a few minutes into the video. Preliminary feedback for other pilgrims:
- It DEFINITELY helps re what to ignore
- But a lot's changed since this May recording - e.g. "Scenario builder" seems to now be Graph Builder. (The latter seems a lot less clear, to me - but I don't yet know how to make it work)
Edits as more thoughts arise -
David Hay (Mar 20 2019 at 01:29):
yes - quite a lot has changed I'm afraid...
Maybe I better record a new one...
Dave deBronkart (Mar 20 2019 at 01:33):
Still, it's a terrific improvement in orientation. Now to see if I can execute this thing
btw in the video I kept noticing your shrinking Battery Remaining indicator and trying to plug MY Mac in. Did not work. A little too Matrixy for comfort.
David Hay (Mar 20 2019 at 01:37):
I love the matrix!
btw - you seem to be progressing now! once you've added the MedicationStatements, add a List resource and then references from List.entry.item to the MedicationStatements. (Don't forget to click the + symbol against entry to create a new entry - you'll need one entry per resource that you're referencing...
Dave deBronkart (Mar 20 2019 at 01:42):
I think I've created something that resembles your video. But along the way I created demented extra things that I don't know how to delete. For instance, I created a Medication(x) for no reason.
I'll see what I can figure out by poking around in Hide Without Data.
Dave deBronkart (Mar 20 2019 at 01:50):
Look, teacher - I think I did it! Is this right? pasted image
David Hay (Mar 20 2019 at 01:51):
Go to the top of the class! Now, try adding some coded data to the resources - eg the patients name, gender and birthdate...
Dave deBronkart (Mar 20 2019 at 01:52):
I will first work on exercise 2 ...
David Hay (Mar 20 2019 at 01:52):
Oh - you did the dosage in the meds - well done!
David Hay (Mar 20 2019 at 01:53):
perhaps you can do the 'how to' video :)
Dave deBronkart (Mar 20 2019 at 01:53):
And did you find my snarky instructions to the slacker patient for each med?
Dave deBronkart (Mar 20 2019 at 01:53):
Perhaps you can take a hike in New Zealand's legendary mountains :-) :-)
David Hay (Mar 20 2019 at 01:55):
"Take 20 mg in morning. No complaining, just do it." ? Now you're sounding like an old-school doc....
Dave deBronkart (Mar 20 2019 at 01:55):
Consider it an Easter egg for you, sensei.
