Topic: Planning for subscriptions track
Josh Mandel (Mar 14 2019 at 20:16):
For those interested in the 2019 Argonaut subscriptions project, @Eric Haas and I have just started putting together a slide deck for our first call (a couple of weeks out) (and notes doc ). I'm especially interested in getting feedback from folks who have been involved in FHIR connectathons on this topic. @Jenni Syed @Isaac Vetter or others, can you let me know if you'd be interested in a prep-call to talk strategy / lessons learned to-date?
Jenni Syed (Mar 14 2019 at 20:59):
Here was my draft of the next connectathon track: https://confluence.hl7.org/display/FHIR/Subscriptions
Jenni Syed (Mar 14 2019 at 20:59):
not sure if that will help
Jenni Syed (Mar 14 2019 at 21:00):
I'm good with a prep call where we can discuss some of the things we've learned so far
Jenni Syed (Mar 14 2019 at 21:01):
It's interesting the pic is a phone/device in the slides :)
Jenni Syed (Mar 14 2019 at 21:02):
(that is getting notified)
Josh Mandel (Mar 14 2019 at 21:33):
Well, it's "a client" :-) But this was intended to be provocative. Clearly consumer access is one of the use cases we've named.
Dave Carlson (Mar 14 2019 at 22:36):
Thanks, Josh, subscriptions are of interest for our work in the Care Planning track. I don't see mention of FHIR version. Is this expected to be R4?
Josh Mandel (Mar 14 2019 at 22:52):
We haven't discussed whether there will be a version dependency; we're just starting to explore use cases and scoping (but yes, I assume we'll target R4)
Isaac Vetter (Mar 15 2019 at 04:57):

Of course! Subscriptions is where it's at (or, at least, will be).
Isaac Vetter (Mar 15 2019 at 04:57):
(Jenni's connectathon track interestingly includes a scenario for websockets. Websockets is likely necessary for any significantly high volume usecase and useful for integrations with client devices -- the phone pic).
Isaac Vetter (Mar 15 2019 at 04:59):
I think that we should strive to understand Intermountain's work to inform our use cases. @Scott Narus - do you happen to pay attention to fhir's zulip?
Isaac Vetter (Mar 15 2019 at 05:02):
overall, I'm concerned that the criteria semantics don't match current state/capabilities and that the "watch all changes" scenario isn't specific enough of a use-case to drive implementers forward
John Moehrke (Mar 15 2019 at 12:27):
The CarePlan tracks at FHIR Connectathon and IHE Connectathon have leveraged Subscription for a couple of events. Check with @Emma Jones

Scott Narus (Mar 15 2019 at 13:12):
I don't normally track zulip, but I did get the notification because of the tag, so able to participate on this. Happy to discuss what we're doing at Intermountain with subscriptions. Also would point to the paper we published at AMIA 2018 on this subject.

Can you share a link here?

What is the scenario you mean @Isaac Vetter ? As far as I'm concerned we haven't actually explored scenarios yet; I think that's the most important thing we want to be doing for our first meetings.
