I was really hoping that STU3 FHIR resource URLs would return the resource StructureDefinition (XML in my case), but I always seem to get the HTML even when I use ?_format=xml. 
Are my expectations too high or am I doing something wrong?

Stephen - set the Accept header on the call to cannonical URL for core to application/fhir+xml and you'll get what you want!

I can't. I'm using the doc() function from within XSL. I imagine that the header information sent is extremely scant and the function has no option for setting any of it.

I'll try and extend the redirection service to support the _format parameter... but won't get to it quickly.

That would be great, but don't kill yourself over it; I have a workaround, albeit a nasty one.
