Topic: Immunization and Medicare
Stephen Royce (Sep 09 2016 at 07:38):
We have a problem with how Medicare record vaccinations, in particular the dose number. In addition to a number for dose sequence, Medicare have the idea of "given at birth" and "given as an adult". Bizarrely, they consider these to be "sequences"! Clearly they're not, but we do need somewhere to put information like that. Would that be an extension in Immunisation.vaccinationProtocol
? Thoughts?

Immunisation.vaccinationProtocol.description
perhaps for some text... they are definitelty protocol...

a coding would be nice...
Stephen Royce (Sep 19 2016 at 05:07):
We looked at Immunisation.vaccinationProtocol.description
but felt that this field was intended for an overall description of the protocol under which the vaccination is made and so "given at birth" and "given as an adult" were too specific and limited in scope to be used in that element. Also, this data is not a general statement about the vaccination and the fact that it should be given at birth, say, but about when the adminstration actually occured. Given that, I did wonder whether an extension on Immunization.date
might be appropriate?
