Ryan Howells (Sep 15 2020 at 01:33):
Yea, we just heard today @Grahame Grieve from our implementer community that AWS cannot support SMART in the following areas:
- It cannot support the patient access CapabilitySet. CapabilitySet
- It cannot support the launch scope or launch-based capabilities (i.e. most Capabilities)
- But AWS can support the SMART on FHIR resource scopes (
patient/<resourceType>.read
) and identity scopes (openid profile
).
Any help from the AWS folks or others on when these might be supported would be extremely helpful for our CARIN members.

(Note: this limitation is specific to AWS' Cognito offering. Folks are free to use another OAuth implementation/provider on top of AWS.)
Ryan Harrison (Dec 11 2020 at 14:53):
For future reference, see the limitations are enumerated in more detail in https://chat.fhir.org/#narrow/stream/179170-smart/topic/SMART.20on.20FHIR.20with.20AWS.20Cognito
