Hello,

I'm working with @Christine D on using FHIR for local labs for Clinical Trials. We've received direction to use the us_core_race extension, but the only link I find to the extension, http://hl7.org/fhir/us/core/StructureDefinition/us-core-race, does not work. It looks like the extension was used in DSTU1 and 2, but has not been used in STU3 or R4.

Am I missing something? or is there an updated extension to use?

Thank you!

Hi @Angie Romano, this extension is defined as part of the US Core implementation guide, which is now being published on the official FHIR IG registry:
http://hl7.org/fhir/us/core/StructureDefinition-us-core-race.html
This extension is compatible with FHIR STU3 release.

Hi @Michel Rutten,

The link you sent references that the official URL for the extension is located: http://hl7.org/fhir/us/core/StructureDefinition/us-core-race. That link produces an error: HL7 - 404 File Not Found. I can try to create a resource using this reference for the extension: http://hl7.org/fhir/us/core/StructureDefinition-us-core-race.html and see what happens.

Hi @Angie Romano, http://hl7.org/fhir/us/core/StructureDefinition/us-core-race is the canonical url of the extension. This represents a unique identifier for the extension. In FHIR, references to profiles are always based on the canonical url. FHIR encourages profile authors to actually host a descriptive html page at the canonical url address, however this is not mandatory. In this case, the canonical url is slightly different from the page location. Just make sure you use the actual canonical url in your profiles/IG and not the page address.

This is something that should be fixed in the published profiles with appropriate redirects. @Grahame Grieve, is this on the list of things to do with the IGPublisher or should I add a tracker?

The profile author (me) is aware that the canonical urls are not resolving and this seems indeed to be a tooling issue. I will investigate.

Thank you @Michel Rutten! I used the canonical reference and it worked just fine.

yes it's a tooling issue.
