I wonder how does the canonical reference to another ValueSet work. I.e.: /ValueSet/compose/include/valueSet/@value
I mean, there is no @value attribute on the root level as far as I can tell looking at the description or the XML schema. Which resource ancestor does bring it?

Look at the definition of the 'canonical' data type and the reference.html page.

The value is based on ValueSet.url and possibly ValueSet.aversion
