There's been a series of questions about using the validator to convert between versions. As of the next release (not released yet!), the way to invoke the version conversion will be simpler. see https://confluence.hl7.org/display/FHIR/Using+the+FHIR+Validator#UsingtheFHIRValidator-VersionConversion
