Topic: Urine output standard
Siddharth Chamarthy (Aug 01 2019 at 17:59):
Hi FHIR Community, I am new to FHIR and I have been looking for resources in the standard that regularly record URINE output during an inpatient or ICU event! Does anyone know which resource allows for that?
Lloyd McKenzie (Aug 01 2019 at 18:10):
Observation would be used to measure inputs and outputs. (And also for calculations based on the comparison of those two things.)
Siddharth Chamarthy (Aug 01 2019 at 19:49):
Are there any open or secured sandboxes that have such data? I want to assess the frequency of these output measurements
Lloyd McKenzie (Aug 01 2019 at 19:52):
A sandbox wouldn't necessarily reflect reality in terms of frequency. (Frequency would also vary by patient state and institutional practice.)
Siddharth Chamarthy (Aug 01 2019 at 19:57):
Okay I understand! So I could expect the Urine Output data to be available in the Observation Resource using a loinc code that corresponds to Urine output!
Lloyd McKenzie (Aug 01 2019 at 20:00):
In the U.S., most likely. In other countries, they might choose to adopt a different code system. (And in some places, they wouldn't use standardized codes at all...)
Siddharth Chamarthy (Aug 01 2019 at 20:12):
Thank you!
