Topic: US Core Extension
Larry Shields (Nov 20 2019 at 15:46):
We've been looking at the US Core Race and Ethnicity Extensions and noticed that they utilize multiple extensions inside their definition in order to capture their values. We were thinking to create a derived one to utilize a Codeable Concept instead of the multiple Coding Extensions contained with in it. Our team was wondering if there was a specific reason to capture the information in multiple Extensions instead of using a single Codeable Concept value. Thanks

because there is a value set for each Coding, and because they are carefully controlled by legislation, and because they would not all have a common text (CodeableConcept.text)

.. and they align tightly with the structure in CCDA US Realm header which are also controlled by US Legislation.

Good to know. Thank you
