Topic: Smoking frequency and alcohol intake
Farhan Ahmad (May 17 2018 at 22:25):
Hi, I was able to get the smoking status and the quit dates in the Observation resource (code=LOINC/72166-2), but I am not able to find how to get the smoking frequency (packs/year for X years). I tried a few of the other LOINC codes without any luck. Where can I find the smoking frequency?
Similarly, I need the alcohol status and intake which I haven't been able to track down. So far I have tried searching for Observations with LOINC codes 74205-6, 11331-6 among others. Where can I find this information?
FYI, I am working in a test Epic instance and have confirmed that the test patient had this data populated. I also tried searching for Observations with category=social-history and that only returns the smoking history Observation resource.
Thanks!

Hey @Farhan Ahmad - HealthDecision :)
Michael Donnelly (May 18 2018 at 07:34):
I'm about to get on an airplane, so I can't check right now. @Danielle Friend and @Isaac Vetter have later flights and might be able to sort it out sooner.
Danielle Friend (May 18 2018 at 07:52):
@Farhan Ahmad - HealthDecision the extent of our characteristics support is based on the us-core profile for smoking status. So we do not return alcohol status or the additional details you mention about frequency. I'll send you a message so we can chat offline about your use case and we can figure out if another way exists to get the data you need.

Hah, @Michael Donnelly, on a west coast flight? :)
@Danielle Friend Thanks for the quick response! My email is listed in my profile. I will keep an eye out for your email. Thanks!
Michael Donnelly (May 18 2018 at 08:08):
Sort of: west coast of Europe. I’m at AMS, heading home from the HL7 Working Group Meeting in Köln.
Michael Donnelly (May 18 2018 at 08:10):
Despite the length, this is a more pleasant flight situation than a red eye from the west coast.

BTW, you can contact your App Orchard support person for help with this kind of thing.

I had thought about that, but I was thinking that this was something more obvious and applied to multiple EHRs, but it seems that this detail is EHR-specific. Danielle just emailed me so I will work with her on that thread. Thanks, and have a safe flight back!
