Topic: Representing an Ambulance Transport event
Jean Duteau (Jun 01 2021 at 15:45):
Has anyone represented an Ambulance Transport event in FHIR? I'm struggling to determine the right resource. I am looking at Procedure (the scope of Procedure gives non-emergency transportation as an example, so I'm assuming that emergency transportation would also apply), but Encounter has the hospitalization section that could be used for that.

@ANDREA FOURQUET did some work with IHE, I beleive.

Thanks @John Moehrke I was looking more for describing the actual ride in the ambulance - data like the distance travelled, the reason for transport, the patient's condition in the ambulance, and what happened during the transport (moved by stretcher, physically restrained, etc.). I couldn't see that information in the IHE RIPT document as that seemed more like the transfer of relevant medical information from patient transport systems to hospitals (or vice versa).

@ANDREA FOURQUET is our expert. I am just a member.

There has been a discussion of adding a Transport resource: https://confluence.hl7.org/display/FHIR/Transport+Resource+Proposal
ANDREA FOURQUET (Jun 01 2021 at 16:50):
@Jean Duteau There is work in the Paramedicine Care Summary profile in IHE's PCC committee. This profile s split into a Clinical Subset and Complete Report. These elements are meant to be defined in the Complete Report. I am currently working on an EMS encounter resource in FHIR that will be able to reflect this event properly. Let me know if you want to have a call or email discussion on the details.
