Topic: Placeholder for Check Number i
Susan Crawford (Mar 03 2017 at 17:49):
We are using the ExplanationOfBenefit Resource and in need of a placeholder for the ‘check number’ when the claim has been paid. Can someone confirm if the ExplanationOfBenefit.payment.identifier (Identifier of the payment instrument) would be a valid option? Also, would it be appropriate to extend the Identifier Type Codes and add a value such a CHK (Code) Check Number (Display)? According to the FHIR specifications, this Identifier is a ‘business’ identifier.
Paul Knapp (Mar 03 2017 at 17:58):
yes, put check in the identifier.type

Susan Crawford (Mar 03 2017 at 20:30):
Thanks, Paul. This is my first time posting anything in Zulip. Thanks, John for keeping it light. I have lots more questions to come and I'm very new with FHIR.
Andy Stechishin (Mar 03 2017 at 20:33):
Welcome to the list Susan don't be bashful, many of the people on the list are new to FHIR
Susan Crawford (Mar 03 2017 at 20:35):
Thanks, Andy. I'm working on that bashful part. :-)
Serafina Versaggi (Mar 04 2017 at 15:56):
This was an amusing thread on a Saturday morning :-)
Susan Crawford (May 19 2017 at 00:07):
@Paul Knapp Hi Paul. This is a follow-up question regarding the use of ExplanationOfBenefit.payment.identifier for the check number. We have recently discovered there can be multiple check numbers for a given claim that need to be stored. The ExplanationOfBenefit.payment has a cardinality of 0..1 and doesn't allow for multiple check numbers. Is this something I would need to request via gForge to get the cardinality changed to 0..*?
Andy Stechishin (May 19 2017 at 02:27):
@Susan Crawford Paul is currently vacationing and may not see your message. I think it is very reasonable to submit a GForge tracker with your request, so that FM can address it in an upcoming teleconference (and to make sure it doesn't get lost)
Susan Crawford (May 19 2017 at 15:17):
Thank you Andy. I hope Paul is having a great vacation.
Paul Knapp (May 24 2017 at 12:39):
Yes, please create a tracker item for this.
