Hi guys,
I'd be interested to know what implementers populate in the observation.effectivetime element when using this resource to capture results from pathology tests. We are working towards a FHIR messaging spec for pathology (haematology and chemical biology for now) and have varying opinions on what this field should be used for e.g sample collection date. Some insight into what the community use this for in a similar setting would be appreciated.

It should be the physiologically relevant time for the observation - generally this would be the time the specimen was collected.

Dave are you sending a FHIR message for pathology, hematology from a Hospital system or querying a Lab database? Was it previously V2?

@Anil Patel We are sending from a pathology lab to a GP or hospital, but will also be querying the GP system once a message has been processed and stored there. Previous format was EDIFACT.
