I just noticed that the HAPI FHIR documentation talks about "closed" and "open" ValueSets. How, in the current FHIR documentation, do I recognize if a ValueSet is one or the other. For instance looking at http://hl7.org/implement/standards/fhir/valueset-marital-status.html and https://www.hl7.org/fhir/valueset-administrative-gender.html?

can you provide a reference to the HAPI documentation for that? it's not language I recognise

i asume it is this url:
http://hapifhir.io/doc_fhirobjects.html#Closed_Valuesets__Codes
Open ValueSets = extensible, closed = required
@Michael Christensen you don't see that fact in the ValueSet Resource itself, but in the StrucutreDefinition of the Resource using this ValueSet (e.g. Patient.martialStatus is marked as extensible)

Yes @Patrick Werner , that's the url I was talking about. And thanks for clearing things up for me regarding looking at the StructureDefinition rather than the ValueSet itself. Makes sense.
