It's a good question, and it deserves it's own topic

Does anyone know if there's any influences of the OData Spec on FHIR? going through some of the documentation, there's references of OData in the spec. OData support would really enable BI tool enablement of FHIR API's...

we haven't really done much about this. In principle, a fhir server can also be an OData server, but we've not really put much work into what it would like, or if there's things to say about how it would work
Grahame Grieve (Feb 15 2020 at 05:05):
the only direct influence is the _filter parameter, which hasn't been very popular

Sorry for the delayed response here, but I had to wait until the updated installer was posted. The new version (2.78.5740.721) of Power BI Desktop includes a FHIR server connector for native access to FHIR servers.
It has some pretty neat features around query folding and expanding. You can download now, but note that the docs are still being published (I'll probably do a proper post in announcements once they are).
I'll also note that I've only played with it a few minutes, so I've related (almost) everything I know about it in this post :-)
Gino Canessa (Feb 20 2020 at 17:27):
Docs are live here.
