Topic: How to map PRONOUN he/she/they?
Maria Hu (Jul 27 2021 at 18:18):
Is there any standard extension to map person's gender-related PRONOUN such as he/she/they etc.? If not, is observation the most appropriate resource to apply? or create an extension? Pls advise, thanks.
Michele Mottini (Jul 27 2021 at 18:41):
Don't think so. An extension on HumanName seems the best place

There is significant work going on on Gender Harmony - @Rob Hausam

Doesn't seem like a characteristic of 'name' - it's more about how should they be addressed. I'm assuming that the Gender Harmony project has a plan here. @Robert McClure
Robert McClure (Jul 27 2021 at 19:00):
Gender Harmony should be published in the next month. We suggest for now that the pronouns be considered an observation using LOINC 90778-2 Personal Pronoun Codes. It is not part of human name. What is part of human name is the "name to use" where the name.type would Usual.
Robert McClure (Jul 27 2021 at 19:02):
Once we meet with PA to discuss how to implement this within FHIR, it may be that there will be an extension to support this more directly in person or other related resources.
