Topic: Glucose profile
John Moehrke (Sep 02 2020 at 15:59):
I am looking for a recommended Glucose profile. I see some Observation examples in FHIR as well as argonaut. I can follow the examples. But I don't see a profile. is this something being worked on?
Jose Costa Teixeira (Sep 02 2020 at 23:02):
you mean an observation profile with just one possible observation.code?
Mikael Rinnetmäki (Sep 03 2020 at 10:47):
Some work in the past haas resulted in this: https://simplifier.net/finnishphr/fiphr-sd-bloodglucose-stu3. In Finland using mmol/l as the primary (required) unit, but supporting mg/dl too on the side, as a 'translation'.
Mikael Rinnetmäki (Sep 03 2020 at 11:19):
My own view is that implementations all implementations should support both mmol/l and mg/dl and implementations visualizing the data should be able to present the data in either units, based on user's selection.
Mikael Rinnetmäki (Sep 03 2020 at 11:21):
Also, experience has shown that for patient-generated data, keeping data from glucometers and continuous glucose separate from each other is worthwhile. A CGM produces around 288 measurements per day.
Mikael Rinnetmäki (Sep 03 2020 at 11:24):
So we have three categories in #finnish PHR. One for CGM values, one for glucometer data, and one generic (mainly lab data, and for apps that don't know better). And we tag glucometer data with both the generic code and the specific code, so that generic apps find the data, and smart apps can make the distinction. But we keep CGM data separate, as generic apps might not be able to handle it well.
Michele Mottini (Sep 03 2020 at 12:34):
In US Core it is a lab result: https://www.hl7.org/fhir/us/core/StructureDefinition-us-core-observation-lab.html
John Moehrke (Sep 03 2020 at 13:25):
My use-case is a patient self entered glucose measurement (not automated device... yet). The data is going into a PHR, not the EHR.
Jose Costa Teixeira (Sep 03 2020 at 13:38):
we have an I G where we'll enter that value in one of 2 ways: 1. via a questionnaire that provides several values besides that.
Jose Costa Teixeira (Sep 03 2020 at 13:39):
- in an observation (not a dedicated profile, just adding the right value to the observation.code)
John Moehrke (Sep 03 2020 at 13:51):
okay, so what do your Observation look like? Mainly there are too many .code alternatives for me to chose from; so am looking for recommendation
Jose Costa Teixeira (Sep 17 2020 at 13:26):
(sorry, i did ask for the code, got no response yet)
