Topic: FHIR spec general question
Lucaz (Jul 08 2021 at 15:08):
Just a quick question. FHIR is designed for exchanging data fast, making it available and standardized for each party involved. How, or does it benefit the usability of said data?
Lloyd McKenzie (Jul 08 2021 at 15:44):
FHIR defines technical mechanisms to define and share formal constraints on the specification to increase consistency of data (ensure particular elements are present, particular code systems are used, etc.) These constraints are typically targeted at particular intended uses for the information. Different uses may pose different requirements for what data must be present. The shared underlying resource structures means that, when done properly, a single interface can expose their data in a way that satisfies multiple sets of constraints (and thus multiple intended uses) simultaniously.
