Topic: Expected Admit/Discharge Date/Times
Rod McDonald (Jun 22 2017 at 18:41):
Looking for affirmation that if it was deemed necessary to expose the HL7v2 PV2-8 and PV2-9 Expected Admit/Discharge Date/Time data, that the logical place would be as an extension within the Hospitalisation element of the FHIR Encounter resource?
Lloyd McKenzie (Jun 22 2017 at 18:58):
That makes sense to me. @Brian Postlethwaite (new) ?
Michelle (Moseman) Miller (Jun 22 2017 at 19:08):
FYI, I asked for this before, per GF#7873, but the Patient Admin response (comment on the tracker) was to use the existing Encounter.period:
The period that is allocated to the Encounter may be used to describe future/expected end dates.
The period on the status History is explicitly actuals, so future values should not be present in this period.
I would still support separation of estimated (or expected) dates vs actual dates.
Rod McDonald (Jun 22 2017 at 19:17):
Thanks Loyd and Michelle - will go with separating estimated/expected from actual dates.
Peter Scholz (Jun 26 2017 at 07:56):

That irritates me a bit,
statusHistory may include a status of planned , so what does that mean for the period ?
The description says
The time that the episode was in the specified status
But does that really make sense ?
Peter Scholz (Jun 26 2017 at 07:59):
But on the other hand,
i would expect expected admit and discharge times not in the period part of the encounter but in the context of the hospitalization
Therefore I would go with Rod by means of where to put it, but suggest to include it in the backbone element instead of using an extension.
Brian Postlethwaite (Jul 05 2017 at 06:19):
Is this something that others want to see re-opened for further discussion?
Michelle (Moseman) Miller (Jul 05 2017 at 15:04):
+1 from me (no surprise)
dsh (May 13 2020 at 17:48):
hi guys @Brian Postlethwaite @Lloyd McKenzie @Michelle (Moseman) Miller any progress on this front ?
dsh (May 13 2020 at 17:49):
we need to implement Discharge planning in our system and Encounter is an obvious choice but I would like to hear your thoughts since this conversation has started
