Topic: Encounter.indication vs admittingDiagnosis
Michelle (Moseman) Miller (May 28 2016 at 03:42):
The Encounter.indication definition includes "For admissions, this is the admission diagnosis", yet there is another element for Encounter.hospitalization.admittingDiagnosis.
What is the difference between Encounter.indication and Encounter.hospitalization.admittingDiagnosis?
(I logged GF#9699 asking for clarification a couple months ago, but no update yet....)

@Michelle (Moseman) Miller could it be that "indication" maybe a procedure?
Michelle (Moseman) Miller (May 28 2016 at 18:04):
Yes, indication allows a reference to either Condition or Procedure, but it still begs the question whether we should be populating our admitting diagnosis (Condition) in both elements (Encounter.indication and Encounter.hospitalization.admittingDiagnosis) and/or if different conditions ever appeared in these elements, how we should interpret the difference in meaning.
