Topic: Diagnosis-related group
natus (May 16 2017 at 16:25):
Hi,
I am wondering which resource is supposed to reference the Diagnosis-related group (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Diagnosis-related_group).
I have seen it in (http://hl7.org/fhir/valueset-ex-diagnosisrelatedgroup.html):
- ExplanationOfBenefit
- Claim
But to me it is supposed to be related to a Encounter at some point. Any thought about that ?
Thanks by advance

DRGs are the "result" of a Diagnosis, Procedure, characteristics of the patient like age, gender, and a episoed of care/ encounter. Therfore it isn't just a resource but a combination of many resources. As the main purpose is reembursement this will lead to a claim in the end.
To capture the necessary combination of data - a profiled composition would be a possible way to go.
Lloyd McKenzie (May 17 2017 at 16:27):
DRG is derived from a bunch of things, but in the end it's still a single coded assertion. Thus far, it's only been identified as a requirement on the claims side. If you think it needs to be on Encounter too, submit a change request.
natus (Jul 11 2019 at 14:16):
@Lloyd McKenzie the Claims does have a (multiple) Encounter reference as Claim.item.encounter
and also the packageCode to store the DRG. However there is no way to search by packageCode right now apparently. Is this a good stard to share DRG codes ?

@Paul Knapp @MaryKay McDaniel @Andy Stechishin?
MaryKay McDaniel (Jul 12 2019 at 17:22):
@natus
How are you defining encounter in your question? Are you directly referencing the encounter resource? OR do you mean an "encounter" as in a zero pay claim? or the Medicaid definition of "encounter"?
Thanks!
MaryKay
natus (Jul 14 2019 at 21:56):
@MaryKay McDaniel
Are you directly referencing the encounter resource
yes: a reference to an encounter resource
Paul Knapp (Jul 16 2019 at 16:07):
@natus Could you come to an FM conference call (Tuesday 11AM eastern http://join.freeconferencecall.com/fm4) to review your request?
natus (Jul 30 2019 at 11:34):
Hi @Paul Knapp guess it is too late
Lloyd McKenzie (Jul 30 2019 at 14:52):
@natus Calls are ongoing - it's never too late to discuss :)
natus (Jul 30 2019 at 15:03):
Calls are ongoing
is it a special period these day, or calls are ongoing every day
natus (Jul 30 2019 at 15:04):
?
Lloyd McKenzie (Jul 30 2019 at 15:11):
Every Tuesday at 11 Eastern for the Financial Management work group. Other work groups have calls at other times
Gino Canessa (Jul 30 2019 at 15:21):
HL7.org has all of the conference calls (note:
slow loading). The Events also lists "Today's Conference Calls", but they do not appear to show up in searches.
natus (Jul 30 2019 at 15:22):
there is a call in 30 minute today ?
Lloyd McKenzie (Jul 30 2019 at 15:28):
By my math, call started 30 minutes ago...
natus (Jul 30 2019 at 15:32):
^^
Paul Knapp (Aug 07 2019 at 16:57):
@natus Lloyd's right, never too late.
