Topic: Compound Code in Medication Request
Shalinee Batri (Aug 06 2018 at 07:08):
Medication Compound Code - as per the NCPDP 406-D6 , do we have any attribute for this information in any of medication FHIR resources. I could not find. Please help.
Lloyd McKenzie (Aug 06 2018 at 14:43):
For those of us without a copy of the NCPDP spec handy, can you provide a brief definition or list the types of values it contains?
Melva Peters (Aug 06 2018 at 14:54):
It looks like it includes the following values: ‘0’ – Not Specified
‘1’ – Not a Compound ‘2’ – Compound and is part of the claim segment (at least that's what I see when I google it). There is nothing like this in the medicationDispense - we have a code if there is one and if not, the medication is a reference to a medication resource (either stand alone or contained). @Shalinee Batri you can add a GForge Tracker item and the Pharmacy Work Group will discuss.
Lloyd McKenzie (Aug 06 2018 at 16:14):
Might not be a bad idea to throw "category" on Medication - could be used to differentiate compounds, vaccines and other useful categorizations.
Shalinee Batri (Aug 07 2018 at 03:04):
@Melva Peters , thank you. could you tell me how I can add GForge Tracker item. I'm little new here. Thanks again.
Lloyd McKenzie (Aug 07 2018 at 03:46):
At the bottom of every page in the specification is a "propose a change" link. You'll need to do a one-time registration, after that you can submit changes at will :)
Shalinee Batri (Aug 07 2018 at 10:26):
@Lloyd McKenzie Got it .. thanks :)
John Silva (Aug 07 2018 at 13:33):
@Lloyd McKenzie - I had already made a request to add a category property for the Medication resource; maybe we can reference that tracker item (GF# 17411) https://gforge.hl7.org/gf/project/fhir/tracker/?action=TrackerItemEdit&tracker_item_id=17411&start=0 Hopefully now that you have this additional use case requirement it will get more traction! ;-)
Melva Peters (Aug 07 2018 at 15:38):
If you go to the bottom of every page of the FHIR spec, there is a link to "Propose a Change". You'll need to create a Gforge account, but once that's done, you can submit changes
