The current specs say 'All the interactions are all described for synchronous use, and an Asynchronous use pattern is also defined.' (http://hl7.org/fhir/http.html), but the linked Asynchronous use pattern page is http://hl7.org/fhir/async.html that is actually specific for bulk export. Does async (in principle at least) applies to all interactions? Or it is really just a bulk export thing?
