http://community.fhir.org/t/how-an-appointment-relates-to-a-coverage/1525 @Cooper Thompson @Paul Knapp @Andy Stechishin @Brian Postlethwaite this is a PA/FM cross question

I"m wondering, you know, we're starting to get more and more questions like this. Should we have a finance/payments stream? or should we use da vinci? (@Viet Nguyen )

The scenario isn’t directly addressed in any Da Vinci use cases. IMO it would be great to have a number of common scenarios to demonstrate a “best practices” for utilizing FHIR resources. In this specific example, the appointment and the coverage resources can each reference the patient. Depending on the type of appt (e.g. workers compensation, auto injury, or regular medical visit) the primary Coverage may be different.

Hmm... we probably need a GF to add account to Appointment, like we have on Encounter. I would expect the linking would be Appointment -> Account -> Coverage(s). I created GF#24078 for this.

Da Vinci is US-specific, so having it wouldn't necessarily argue against having a "finance" stream

I have created a financial stream. I have also answered this question on community.fhir.org.
