I'm planning to remove the ehrsrle IG from the core build in order to do the R5/R4B work. Does anyone think that will be a problem?

will it become a standalone IG? The split is needed. Can you register redirects? I know of places where deep links are used to get into it.

it's the last 'guide' included in the specification itself that hasn't already been removed, and in the new model I'm trying to build, supporting it will be several days of work.

Can we at least replace it with a page that indicates where to find the content? (Though that won't necessarily help with deep links.)

In practice, having it working for ballot wouldn't be important - as it's not changing for ballot. However, having it working in June for final publication would be useful.
