Mmmm.....don't even remember seeing this issue before.... is this asking about the exact algorithm to get from base+diff to snapshot? @Chris Grenz and @Michel Rutten have done an enormous amount of work here in implementing it and syncing their snapshot generators. Describing it now seems possible, but a daunting task. What do you thin, @Michel Rutten ?

Interesting, didn't know about this proposal.
In Forge, it is now hardcoded that the FMM extension is not inherited by derived profiles.
It would definitely be an improvement if an extension definition profile could somehow express the associated rules for snapshot generation in a computable way.
