Topic: Support for OpenJDK?
Chris Moesel (Apr 10 2019 at 17:03):
Has there been any discussion of supporting / encouraging use of OpenJDK for the FHIR tooling? With Oracle introducing per-user per-month licensing for Java SE 8+, using Oracle Java SE may start to be a hassle. The cost isn't too bad ($2.50/month), but I'd rather not have to deal w/ maintaining a subscription. Has anyone tried OpenJDK recently?
David Pyke (Apr 10 2019 at 17:08):
I run the IGPublisher via OpenJDK and it works fine for me.
Josh Mandel (Apr 25 2019 at 13:00):
OK good -- I'm going to try running the IG Publisher this was for the auto-build pipeline too.
Grahame Grieve (Apr 25 2019 at 13:00):
isn't the auto-build what we are talking about?
Josh Mandel (Apr 25 2019 at 13:05):
This thread was about tools Chris runs on his own, locally.
Josh Mandel (Apr 25 2019 at 13:05):
across all tooling, I think
Josh Mandel (Apr 25 2019 at 13:06):
and David's comment that the IG publisher works with OpenJDK gives me confidence that this might work (which is good, because I don't have a great alternative in 2019).
Chris Moesel (Apr 26 2019 at 12:41):
I was mainly interested in the IG Publisher, as it is the FHIR tooling I used the most -- but I occasionally need to build the core FHIR stuff too. I can confirm now that I was able to successfully run the IG Publisher using an AdoptOpenJDK OpenJDK 8 HotSpot build for Mac.
Josh Mandel (Apr 26 2019 at 20:46):
Yeah, and now successfully running behind https://hl7-fhir.github.io/auto-ig-builder/builds.html
