Topic: timezone for connectathon
Virginia Lorenzi (Dec 15 2020 at 05:08):
Anyone know? Is it eastern? @Sandra Vance @Mary Ann Boyle
Peter Jordan (Dec 15 2020 at 08:27):
Hopefully, it's US Pacific Standard Time (i.e. UTC -8) as discussed at one of the recent Co-Chair Webinars.
Mary Ann Boyle (Dec 15 2020 at 15:55):
yes, the timezone for the connectathon is the same as the WGM. It will be in PT
Jenni Syed (Dec 15 2020 at 16:40):
cc @Sandra Vance but I believe the times listed in the slides and meetings are usually ET. Each track typically calls out their own schedule, which may take into account multi-timezone participants
Jenni Syed (Dec 15 2020 at 16:40):
If they're not, I have some updates to do to our track schedule :)

Jenni Syed (Dec 15 2020 at 16:41):
eg: from that page and the schedule, the prep meeting is 4pm ET... so I assumed the schedule of events was all ET as well
Sandy Vance (Dec 15 2020 at 18:34):
hi guys - I am working on getting a final answer on this now. The WGM is in PT so we may transition the whole Connectathon.

It would be really nice if times listed in schedules always included a UTC version.

If only there were international standards for interoperable data that would work anywhere. :-)
Virginia Lorenzi (Jan 02 2021 at 09:13):
Yes - based on the use of ET in Sandy's orientation I assumed it was ET. This might be confusing. I think we might need to get the word out that its Pacific Time. We scheduled ours on Eastern based on Sandy's orientation.
Yunwei Wang (Jan 04 2021 at 15:57):
I am more confused. Is it ET or PT? @Sandra Vance @Virginia Lorenzi

Yes indeed - the Connectathon's own web page says "Agenda coming soon"! Help!
Yunwei Wang (Jan 04 2021 at 16:08):
I understand each track has its own agenda. The question is for the general sessions
Virginia Lorenzi (Jan 05 2021 at 03:46):
Sandy clarified today - its Pacific.
Mary Ann Boyle (Jan 05 2021 at 13:54):
Yes, thank you Virginia. The Connectathon and WGM will be in PT for January. May will be on GMT/ UTC time, and September will be on ET. Wayne announced this at the co-chair meeting, and it has been in all the emails about the meeting too. It will also be stated again at the track lead training session today (1/5). If you need that link, please let me or Sandy know and we can send it out again. Currently we only have 5 track leads scheduled to attend.
Dave deBronkart (Jan 05 2021 at 14:39):
Great info, @Mary Ann Boyle!
FWIW, I registered and have only received one email about it, the order confirmation. What am I missing? Sorry!
(Specifically, I searched in gmail "connectathon from:hl7.org")
Mary Ann Boyle (Jan 05 2021 at 14:43):
@Sandra Vance sent an email to all track leads for the training today and has sent out other emails for other training sessions that she has held.
Mary Ann Boyle (Jan 05 2021 at 14:46):
emails from HQ would come from announcements@HL7.org
Mary Ann Boyle (Jan 05 2021 at 14:47):
here is one that went out at 9am ET today

Aha! I got that "registration is still open" email, though I HAVE already registered ... it does link to the agenda, but
- As someone who HAS registered, I've not been sent that info (irony!)
- The HL7 FHIR Connectathons page for this event says this for agenda:
image.png
So maybe they could add the agenda link to that page.
Thanks for demystifying us - much appreciated. (I presume I'm not the only one who hasn't been reached with the info, since others were asking.)
Will there be event info emails going out to us who've registered?
Mary Ann Boyle (Jan 05 2021 at 16:43):
we just got it from Sandy today, so you will see it soon. = ) We are uploading the content now
Michael Lawley (Jan 06 2021 at 02:41):
I think you've misunderstood my request -- I would like to see the times specified relative to UTC so I can easily convert without having to magically know what ET and PT and ??? are relative to UTC. We are an international community, no?
Michael Lawley (Jan 06 2021 at 02:43):
i.e., instead of (or as well as) 9am ET , specify 9am ET (UTC-5)
this will also help out with issues relating to daylight time changes
