Topic: search topic in zulip

I have a question on the search functionality in zulip. When I try to search for a topic - say ndjson, no results show up, but I am directed to search in public stream. Results in public stream appear to be different when i compare results with another colleague. Can some one help me understand the best way to search for discussion threads on a topic? @Lloyd McKenzie @Tushar Nair @Grahame Grieve

Let's try a specific example.

If you type / that should take you to the search box; then type ndjson and then hit enter. That should take you to the same results as clicking on my link here: https://chat.fhir.org/#narrow/search/ndjson

That should show you results from any streams you're subscribed on (for me, I see #social and #ibm as the most recent hits).

If you see different results from a colleague, could it be that you and your colleague are subscribed to different channels?

/ndjson

(you have to type the initial / when you don't have a message edit box in focus. Alternatively you can click on the search icon at the top of the screen.)

Thanks Josh, Kumar for the responses. the part I was missing is that the results are tailored to only streams I am subscribed to. You are right my colleague and i have different streams subscribed. Is there a way to get results from all - even those I have not subscribed to?

I don't think so (certainly not for private streams -- but if I hear your question as "is there a way to search all public streams, including ones I'm not subscribed to", let me see if @Tim Abbott knows whether this might be possible).

There is! You can do it with the streams:public search operator. It's documented here, and also if you do a search that doesn't find any matches, there's a button at the top to add it to your search keywords.

I see .. / ( search )works for browser. I had tried from mobile APP, it did not work. on mobile keyboard becomes visible only when there is an input field.

That's correct. Sorry for the confusion!
