Topic: UI madness in HL7 balloting sites?
Dave deBronkart (Nov 19 2021 at 15:39):
I'm trying to make the Patient Empowermt WG minutes user-friendly for the new consumer voices who are showing up and I'm hitting obstacles.
Prepping for the January ballot cycle I see this on the Balloting page: "use the Join a Pool" link.

But on the Ballot Desktop page there no such link. Instead there's Join a Consensus Group:

Seriously? Is this what we're actually supposed to use? Is fixing this disconnect #3,428 on some list of website fixes?
Please tell me I'm missing something.
Josh Mandel (Nov 19 2021 at 15:45):
@Dave deBronkart I don't think you're missing anything. This is one of many, many reasons it's hard to get fresh eyes participating in the official consensus process.
Dave deBronkart (Nov 19 2021 at 15:47):
Thanks, @Josh Mandel . I'm starting to think HL7 is simply not ready for public consumption, and it's an existential issue.
So, please, somebody involved in HL7 infrastructure: what cage do we bang on to get at least this one disconnect resolved?
Melva Peters (Nov 19 2021 at 17:46):
@Lynn Laakso is this something that you can change - the "join a pool" link should say "Join a Consensus Group"
Melva Peters (Nov 19 2021 at 17:47):
@Dave deBronkart I've tagged Lynn Laakso. She's on PTO this week but hopefully she'll respond when she's back.
Lynn Laakso (Nov 24 2021 at 14:56):
I've made the change to the narrative on the https://www.hl7.org/participate/onlineballoting.cfm page.
Vassil Peytchev (Nov 24 2021 at 16:15):
There is the text below in the Member Balloting Instructions:
Ballot comments may be entered directly into Comments area of the online ballot form or prepared in a text editor and copied and pasted into the online Ballot Comments area. Comments may also be attached to the ballot in file format. Please submit the supplied Excel files, for additional comments, only.
Lynn Laakso (Nov 24 2021 at 18:45):
@Melva Peters @Lloyd McKenzie should we brainstorm on what the verbiage will need to say?
Lloyd McKenzie (Nov 24 2021 at 22:43):
"For ballots conducted using Jira, ballot comments must be submitted as Jira issues against the relevant specification and linked to your ballot submission. The only exception is for recirculation or withdrawal ballots, where comments can be recorded directly against your Jira ballot submission."
Lynn Laakso (Nov 30 2021 at 16:25):
Looking at text updates here. Reaffirmation or withdrawal ballots are not voting in Jira so there will not be a Jira ballot submission?
Lloyd McKenzie (Nov 30 2021 at 16:40):
For now, correct. However, for those, there won't be spreadsheets either.
