Topic: Spec build time
James Agnew (Aug 26 2016 at 11:52):
So.. I just finally finished a build on a new top-of-the-line linux desktop PC to replace my ageing MacBook Air at home. Figured a good torture test for how much faster it is would be to build the FHIR spec.
On my MacBook Air:
BUILD SUCCESSFUL
Total time: 43 minutes 19 seconds
On my new machine:
BUILD SUCCESSFUL
Total time: 4 minutes 48 seconds
Damn.

Think that means a new mac?
Grahame Grieve (Aug 26 2016 at 12:14):
that's very fast indeed. a record, in fact. but do you need to clean out your temp?
James Agnew (Aug 26 2016 at 12:23):
Heh, decided not to go Mac this round. I've been waiting for about a year now for Apple to refresh the MacPro and I got sick of waiting. Back to Ubuntu for me!
James Agnew (Aug 26 2016 at 12:24):
It's a fresh checkout with all the .class files deleted, so no cleanup should be needed I think.
Grahame Grieve (Aug 26 2016 at 12:27):
on your mac - clean ut your system temp, then it's a fair comparison
Grahame Grieve (Aug 26 2016 at 12:27):
it can make a great deal of difference
Grahame Grieve (Aug 26 2016 at 12:27):
if your temp has >150k files, windows as a whole starts to get slow.
Grahame Grieve (Aug 26 2016 at 12:27):
OSX is a bit similar, I think
