Topic: Problem inviting to stream

view this post on Zulip Torben M. Hagensen (Apr 23 2020 at 05:57):

I cannot invite members to a stream anymore with "Invite more users" or settings->"Invite users". Has anyone else experienced that problem or have knowledge of any changes made to the organization settings to disallow it?

If someone is a user, subscribing them to a stream works:

But "invite more users" doesn't seem to work (in Chrome).

That is also what I see (Doesn't work in Edge either). I have tried to write to support, but they also just state that I can add existing users.

I can see from the documentation, that the organization admin can disable the invite feature. Does anyone know who is organization admin and if any adjustments has been made recently?

@Josh Mandel ?

@Tim Abbott is the one most likely to know what's going on here.

I think the problem is that the administrators have created a stream that is a "default stream" - all new members are added that is also private; a bug in the handling this corner case means that the invitation widget is broken.

The fix on your end is almost certainly to make the default, private stream no longer a default stream.

An organization administrator can do this here: https://chat.fhir.org/#organization/default-streams-list

I just get a blank page for that

view this post on Zulip Grahame Grieve (Apr 24 2020 at 23:12):

@Tim Abbott - that is both in the desktop client and in Chrome directly

view this post on Zulip Tim Abbott (Apr 24 2020 at 23:41):

I guess the offending "default stream" is one you're not on, either. Let me see.

view this post on Zulip Tim Abbott (Apr 24 2020 at 23:43):

OK, I've fixed the data problem -- the issue was that the problematic "default streams" were deactivated.

view this post on Zulip Tim Abbott (Apr 24 2020 at 23:45):

So there should be nothing you need to do.

And opened https://github.com/zulip/zulip/issues/14745 to track fixing the root issue here.

Thanks for the report!

view this post on Zulip Tim Abbott (Apr 24 2020 at 23:46):

(There's an existing, separate issue, for the fact that this weird situation caused the "invite more users" and "default streams" UIs to not load properly)
