Has anyone any comment on GF#16526 ? it was kind of oked by process, but I think it would be retrograde step. But I think there's bit of a tension between the first time reader and the heavy user here...

It may be ok for it to be at the bottom. It looks kind of unimportant because it doesn't have a background. If we wrapped it in a differently colored rounded box, perhaps more people would pay attention to it and look to see what was there?

These items don't really belong to the core spec, so putting them in the upper red row of menu items would be misleading.
But there's a lot of space on the right side of "Home". Why not put Lloyd's colored box there? Seems a more prominent place while still distinguished from the core spec.

Would move to below Level 5 when responsive design decides to rearrange boxes

The ponter to IGs are buried and need to be front and center. I think we need a splash page with one box pointing to the spec and one to implementation guide directories

probably too late to do anything now though

view this post on Zulip Stefan Lang (Aug 09 2018 at 20:56):

Splash pages are evil ;-)
Basically, "Home" already is the place to give anybody orientation where to click next (a very rich splash page, if you like). Why put something "pre-orienting" before that?
As a user, I'd just prefer to have the "more wisdom beyond FHIR core" area more prominent.

view this post on Zulip Grahame Grieve (Aug 09 2018 at 20:59):

  • Home is reserved for breadcrumbs. Let's not misuse that for something else on the home page
  • Splash pages are not happening.
  • we already have a pre-orientation box
  • do we have to draw a box around things for people to notice them?

The issue is visibility of IGs which what many users will be using. I think we brazenly and brashly make them more easily discoverable.

Yes

or a large big bold button...

view this post on Zulip Grahame Grieve (Aug 09 2018 at 21:04):

well, let's just draw a box around every page using css

view this post on Zulip Stefan Lang (Aug 09 2018 at 21:07):

It's really easy to completely overlook that area as it is optically similar to the note below. Every other content information on "Home" is boxed.

view this post on Zulip Lloyd McKenzie (Aug 09 2018 at 22:03):

This issue is that on a page where most stuff has a box, the stuff that doesn't have a box (especially if it's at the bottom) gets mentally flagged as 'unimportant' - which absolutely isn't the case.

view this post on Zulip John Moehrke (Aug 10 2018 at 16:03):

As important as IG are, this is the landing page for the core specification. I think where they are today is sufficient. The visibility of IG should be an independent thing, possibly IG specific. Not all IGs are equal in the kind of visibility they need.
