Topic: HL7 FHIR R4 Proficiency Exam
Pradeep Podila (Dec 12 2020 at 23:21):
Can anyone who has taken HL7 FHIR R4 Proficiency Exam offer guidance/pointers as to how they have prepare for the exam? Is it through formal training or on your own? Thanks in advance.
JBH Solutions (Jan 21 2021 at 21:32):
Hey! Took the fundamentals course as initial introduction to FHIR concepts and then proceeded to take the practice test in which I failed pretty badly. Followed up with the HL7 FHIR exam preparation course and having studied the concepts way more with practice quizzes given took the practice test again in which I did way better on and then passed the #proficiencyexam. Good way to take it all in and really understand it.

This account of his the path to certification by HL7NZ Board Member @Derek Buchanan is worth reading.
Derek Buchanan (Jan 22 2021 at 04:58):
Thanks @Peter Jordan . Great to hear about the benefits of the prep course @JBH Solutions and certainly practice tests would definitely help.with the exam. I sat R4 a while back (July 2019) and certainly some serious time investment was needed. Doing the fundamentals courses helped (and I'd imagine the new comprehensive exam prep course also) to improving the likelihood of passing. Dedication, perseverance and hard work should get you there @Pradeep Podila. Here's the original link to a blog post that I posted recently - https://www.linkedin.com/posts/derek-buchanan-ab5904183_hl7-fhir-healthtech-activity-6754546822582288384-XadY

I hope this helps with people's learning journey, and if you are doing (or planning to do) the prep courses - doing a bit of additional prep should get you the exam. Good luck and don't be afraid to reach out if needed. Cheers ️

Today a small group of us started a FHIR Cert Exam Study Group. We're meeting for an hour every Saturday morning at 11 AM Eastern, and working through the official HL7 FHIR Cert Study Guide. Anyone interested in joining us please send your email address & I'll add you to the invite.
Janaka Peiris (Sep 23 2021 at 04:16):
Thanks to @Jennifer Dennis and few others I was able to pass the exam. I have written an article on "HL7 FHIR R4 Certification: A guide to self-study path". Still, there are only a very few resources to find information about the exam from ones who took it, and how to get prepared (I found less than 5). So feel free to share and those who like to join the next study group can comment on the article. We already have a few interested, so I'm hoping to get it started for them.

Can anyone help me with the best course on getting FHIR certified.
David Pyke (Sep 24 2021 at 12:50):
The best course depends on your learning style. HL7's is a good one to check out http://www.hl7.org/training/fhir-prep.cfm
Janaka Peiris (Sep 27 2021 at 02:07):
We've formed a LinkedIn group as a meeting place for anyone interested in HL7 FHIR Certifications.

As the first step, we are gathering people and getting their requirements and ideas. We have plans to introduce study groups once we have enough members. Feel free to invite anyone by sharing the link!
Thanks to the team @Derek Buchanan (NZ), @Daniel Bach (Canada), @Jennifer Dennis (USA), @Kumar Satyam (India), @Rath Panyowat (Thailand), @Samantha Burchell (NZ), @Pechow Zheng (Canada)
NOTE: This is an informal group, started by people who were interested in helping and assisting others and promote the certifications.

Pradeep,
Derek Buchanan who has taken the exam has a blog post: https://www.linkedin.com/pulse/fhir-certification-preparation-clinicians-also-derek-buchanan/?trackingId=HS22SqCwS3iuPDjOI8C%2BCQ%3D%3D. The FHIR Tip sheet offers some tips and resources for the exam: http://www.hl7.org/documentcenter/public/training/HL7%20FHIR%20Proficiency%20Study%20Guide.pdf. You can also purchase the study guide from our Education on Demand site: https://www.pathlms.com/hl7/courses/28823. Those who have attempted the exam cannot disclose the questions/content of the exam. They can certainly suggest effective methods to prepare for the exam. We do offer formal training: https://www.hl7.org/training/fhir-prep.cfm?ref=nav, and https://www.pathlms.com/hl7/product_bundles/1284. I hope that answers your question.
