I'm guessing that announcing Trump as the key note today means that it's rock solid that the event is going ahead

view this post on Zulip Peter Jordan (Mar 02 2020 at 23:37):

That will be interesting. Will he dismiss COVID-19 as 'Fake News' or a Democrat Party Plot?

view this post on Zulip Grahame Grieve (Mar 02 2020 at 23:58):

not sure. But it will be the greatest crowd ever at a HIMSS key note

view this post on Zulip Paul Church (Mar 03 2020 at 00:04):

7 days of incremental updates on confirmed cases and deaths, with a trickle of companies pulling out of the conference, is a long time. I don't think the Trump administration has gamed this out to the point where it's rock solid.

Who'd a thought that?

view this post on Zulip David Pyke (Mar 03 2020 at 02:34):

Unless the major EHRs start pulling out, the event is going ahead. Cisco and Adobe have left but they're not the big voices for this kind of thing. The fact that HL7 pulled out was surprising but I'm sure the team thought long and hard about it first.

New flash at 1600 Pennsylvania Ave: OMG the virus can't be threatened, humiliated, bribed or fired! Those are the only tools in our playbook!

view this post on Zulip Grahame Grieve (Mar 03 2020 at 02:45):

it can't be spun either

view this post on Zulip Rob Hausam (Mar 03 2020 at 03:16):

Actually, it can - the virus can run its natural course and the Trump administration can take credit for saving all of us.

view this post on Zulip Dave deBronkart (Mar 03 2020 at 03:36):

Most certainly would!

Is this actually the opening keynote? From HealthcareIT News::

His HIMSS20 speech is currently scheduled for Monday, March 9, at 4 p.m. in the Valencia Ballroom of the Orange County Convention Center.

(btw, that timing surely explains why the Monday training for Interop Showcase volunteers got moved from 2-4 to 1-3.)

And @Grahame Grieve that overlaps your closing talk at HealthDevJam! I'll pick your session for sure.

A thought: What if he was the only big-draw voice that was WILLING to come at the last minute?? Remember, this is the guy who stared directly at an eclipse ...

This really is odd, though, since he's a well known germaphobe.

Apart from those that died, but that's the fault of the Democrats...

well, wow. thanks.

Is this scheduled by ONC to enable Trump to announce the new rule?

Surely he is already down there golfing, he will show up in his golfing outfit

Is HIMSS the official launch for GRIEVE 2020?

view this post on Zulip Brendan Keeler (Mar 03 2020 at 15:09):

Kinda late entering in after Super Tuesday but could play as a brokered convention strategy

pfft. Actually, right now, I'm leaning towards not going to USA. My principle concern is that I will only come if I'm sure I can get home

view this post on Zulip David Pyke (Mar 04 2020 at 00:25):

If not, you're welcome to hide in Canada until it all blows over.

view this post on Zulip Grahame Grieve (Mar 04 2020 at 00:49):
