Topic: FHIR Beer
Matthijs van der Wielen (Jun 14 2021 at 12:57):
When rewatching Ewout's presentation on bringing the .NET SDK to the cloud I noticed the Audit Transcript turned "HAPI SDK" into Hoppy SDK. This in turn started a conversation about FHIR Beer.
My initial thoughts on FHIR Beer:
An IPA with 4 types of Hops:
- Falconer's Flight Hops
- Herald Hops
- Idaho 7 Hops
- Riwaka Hops
Call it "The FHIR IPA"
Got the hop types from morebeer.com

Maybe @Dave Shaver is still reading this, he might want to chime in ;-)

Cool! We launched the Hot Beverage IG on April 1st, so now only 8 weeks later we are already covering cold beverages, thus spanning the entire spectrum of temperatures. http://build.fhir.org/ig/DavidPyke/HotBeverage/branches/master/index.html
@David Pyke What's your take on this? Two separate IGs, each for its own range of temperature? Or a unified "Beverage IG"?
David Pyke (Jun 14 2021 at 20:33):
I'm starting to think we need a library of abstract profiles for beverage that can be used as a base for all beverage IGs into the future.

LiquidDefinition?
David Pyke (Jun 14 2021 at 20:36):
That would have to have a matching LiquidOrder. FHIR Bartending will be a thing...

Or just realise that in the end it is all Over-the-Counter medication and use the medication profiles? Is hops an active ingredient?
David Pyke (Jun 14 2021 at 20:39):
Hops would be a substance. But that's more about the brewing so, we'd need to start a full beverage subset that borrows from Medications.
Elliot Silver (Jun 14 2021 at 22:14):
I'm still frustrated with the inability to specify that a profile is derived from multiple other profiles. I've been trying to make SpanishCoffee all day, and can't figure out how to indicate my beverage conforms with both the Coffee profile and the Kaluha one.
Elliot Silver (Jun 14 2021 at 22:16):
I guess my Whisky IG is going to have to focus on single malts, not blends too.
Grahame Grieve (Jun 14 2021 at 22:16):
use composition not derivation
Elliot Silver (Jun 14 2021 at 22:16):
Beverage.hasMember?
Grahame Grieve (Jun 14 2021 at 22:17):
already handled in the medicinal stuff
John Silva (Jun 14 2021 at 22:36):
And then tasks for the workflow -- water/hops/yeast, wait (ferment), bottle, drink, (sleep - maybe), and repeat. ;-)

HotBeverage already has an element to add alcohol of your choice. You don't need to cross IGs for this.

This was indeed one of the presentations of last week's DevDays. They are available for participants - and will be available publicly 6 months after DevDays. Which means last DevDay's presentations are now online for everyone: https://chat.fhir.org/#narrow/stream/179240-Announcements/topic/DevDays
Brendan Keeler (Jun 17 2021 at 05:05):
Tasks assigned for everyone to drink one? Or ServiceRequest?
John Silva (Jun 17 2021 at 11:37):
I guess it depends if you are 'self-medicating' or it's being prescribed! ;-)
