Topic: Developers new to FHIR video
Gino Canessa (Oct 05 2020 at 17:18):
Hey all, as @Josh Mandel mentioned, he, @Carl Anderson, and I have been looking at some ways to increase publicly-available content. From my side, I'm planning a series of 'developers new to FHIR' videos. The first one is on YouTube already.
The idea is to have a new video each week for developers that are... new to FHIR =). With that audience and cadence in mind, they are a bit rough (e.g., not overly prepared and recorded in a single take). Next few will likely be focused on entry-level projects in a few languages (e.g., C#, JavaScript/TypeScript). Happy for suggestions / ideas / links to existing content (e.g., I can probably do a few languages without any prep, but if there is content for others I'd be happy to link to them instead =).

Perhaps add to here: https://confluence.hl7.org/display/FHIR/Blogs ?
Josh Mandel (Oct 05 2020 at 18:53):
And also might be good to add a section to http://docs.smarthealthit.org/ with "Intro Video Content" (see "add a link" at the bottom --> GitHub PR workflow)
Eric Whitley (Oct 05 2020 at 19:42):
@Gino Canessa @Josh Mandel Both of these videos are fantastic. Really a huge contribution to the community.
René Spronk (Oct 06 2020 at 06:45):
On task: I once covered this at DevDays, see the first video in http://www.ringholm.com/column/FHIR_HL7_IHE_XDS_year_in_review.htm , based on a Lab workflow example.
In general it's good to do a certain level of preparation for such explanatory videos: what are the key points you want to get across? If you don't know as a speaker, someone who views it is certainly not going to be able to distill those key points. And: try doing it in 10 minutes. Most humans don't have a longer attention span than that, and someone who truly masters a subject should be able to explain that subject within 10 minutes (right ;-) ?)
Record your presentation twice - the second time around will generally be better..
Lin Zhang (Oct 06 2020 at 07:56):
Hosting videos on a globally available site would be better for those whom youtube is unavailable to.
Gino Canessa (Oct 06 2020 at 15:09):
Thanks for the feedback - I should get a better feel for the length moving forward (I was aiming for 30 mins on this and forgot to start a timer, so I had no idea I was long until I was done =).
Dave deBronkart (Oct 06 2020 at 21:54):
Pretty soon we should start coordinating and cataloging these, without turning it into a project that requires balloting!
And I'm keen to see some that are "FHIR for patients" - not so much the technical details but what consumer-patients should be aware of as the Final Rules start to enable the health data spigot we've long awaited. What SHOULD consumers be aware of??
Josh Mandel (Oct 06 2020 at 22:16):
Oh, that's a cool idea @Dave deBronkart . I could definitely take a crack at that -- probably only a subset of the content you'd want, but a starting point!
Josh Mandel (Oct 06 2020 at 22:17):

@Lin Zhang great point to keep in mind -- do you have a specific recommendation?
Lin Zhang (Oct 07 2020 at 01:50):
@Josh Mandel No. Sorry, I'm not familiar with such sites. YouTuBe is officially blocked here.
Dave deBronkart (Oct 07 2020 at 09:44):
I started googling "what video sites..." and it auto-completed "work in China" :-)
FWIW: https://blog.chineseseoshifu.com/top-chinese-video-sites/
Lin Zhang (Oct 07 2020 at 09:55):
There are many guys interested in transporting videos from YouTuBe to such local sites as YouKu.
But such behaviours are illegal in this country because these domestic users have to break the national firewall to get access to YouTuBe.
Gino Canessa (Oct 09 2020 at 22:16):
Hi Lin, just wanted to let you know that I'm looking into what I can do - will post when (if?) I sort something out.
Gino Canessa (Oct 09 2020 at 22:16):
Also, video #2 (manually accessing servers via HTTP) is out: https://youtu.be/eBAQYMT2KtM . Cheers!
Lin Zhang (Oct 09 2020 at 23:52):
@Gino Canessa Appreciate that:blush:
BTW, the url and the pic are not accessible for me (maybe us here) and the browser says it's timeout.
Vassil Peytchev (Oct 10 2020 at 01:04):
Is this an option to access YouTube videos?

Gino Canessa (Oct 16 2020 at 23:43):
ICYMI: Earlier in the week I posted a SMART Overview video (notes and links, as usual, are on GitHub.
Gino Canessa (Oct 16 2020 at 23:44):
Today's content is the first part of the C# tutorial video series, with notes and links here. Cheers!
Gino Canessa (Oct 23 2020 at 21:18):
Hi all, Part 2 of "Getting Started in C#" is up: FHIR for Developers - C# Tutorial 01 Part 02 . This week's video rounds out CRUD operations and does a bit of refactoring.
As usual, links and notes are on GitHub.
Cheers!
Gino Canessa (Nov 02 2020 at 21:49):
Hi all, sorry for the later-than-usual post. The first four parts of going through a SMART flow from C# are up on YouTube. (and Lin, I am sorting out with Josh the process to get them hosted elsewhere)
As always, details can be found on GitHub.
Cheers!
OS (Nov 02 2020 at 21:58):
What an awesome resource! Thank you so much @Gino Canessa
Lin Zhang (Nov 02 2020 at 23:35):
@Gino Canessa Indeed, that's awesome:glowing_star: Thanks a lot!
Lin Zhang (Nov 02 2020 at 23:40):
@Dave deBronkart @Josh Mandel @Gino Canessa Your enthusiasm is like FHIR:fire:
Gino Canessa (Dec 03 2020 at 23:21):
After a brief hiatus, the next video is up on YouTube. Notes are available on GitHub.
Note: a direct link video is also available on GH for those that can't access (@Lin Zhang).
Cheers!
Lin Zhang (Dec 03 2020 at 23:43):
@Gino Canessa That's so considerate:smiley: Appreciate it.

In a similar vein, my colleague @Nick Hatt made this: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=696IddM7awg&feature=youtu.be
