This article is excellent depth on the risk the vaccine passport becomes a permanent ID system.

I think it is interesting that the ID chip that people think is being injected, is actually themselves choosing to carry an ID just to prove to a bouncer that they have been vaccinated.

All said.. this is not a reason for HL7 or others to not develop such a technical tool... but more that we must be well aware of the inappropriate ways that any technology will be used.

I encourage us, developing technological solutions, to include "Policy Considerations". sometimes Policy is the only solution, techology can only do so much to prevent abuse.

I believe that the board agreed that we should acknowledge explicitly in any IG that we publish supporting vaccine passports and registries that a technical implementation guide that describes how those things can work does not address legitimate questions around how they should be used

So basically, bouncing is okay when it's done with a registry (with implied threat of sanctioned state violence), but consenting parties don't have the right of free association? Ooof.

Sounds like some groups are advocating avoiding panopticon in favor of adopting a midwive's tale. One group's utopia of gun ownership and no vaccine passports and no government oversight is another group's dystopia of school shootings and plague state and social chaos.

(Personally, I've become in favor of an opt-in software agent model.)
