saw a fascinating presentation from a trauma unit in Melbourne yesterday where they are using CDS in trauma resuscitation

view this post on Zulip Erich Schulz (Jun 26 2016 at 02:24):

this situation is when you have up to 4 doctors and 4 nurses buzzing around a smashed up human in the "golden hour" that can make a very real difference to if a trauma victim lives or dies

from the outside it looks like complete chaos - and even in good units it often is and mistakes are extremely common

and often fatal

so the thing that got my attention is that they have a dedicated nurse doing data entry and that drives the decision support system in real time

view this post on Zulip Erich Schulz (Jun 26 2016 at 02:27):

they are doing this as some kind of Cerner plug in

but this is novel place where FHIR + CQL could enable the embedded knowledge to be shared in an open manner

Interesting! Do you have any more detailed reference or a way to get hold of presentation material?

(I am co-supervising a student project implementing/experimenting with open CDS rules for emergency care - using https://www.ehrscape.com/ and http://www.openehr.org/releases/CDS/latest/docs/GDL/GDL.html )

Hi @Erik Sundvall - the presenter was Mark Fitzgerald at the Alfred in Melbourne. That's all I have I'm afraid. GDL looks interesting - have you looked at CQL at all yet? @Bryn Rhodes have you looked at GDL?
