Based on CMS's proposal this week for real-time benefits tools (to be offered by Part D plans and integrated into e-rx workflows) I put together a quick write-up explaining how CDS Hooks can address the requirements: https://github.com/jmandel/realtime-benefits-with-cds-hooks/blob/master/README.md

Would love any feedback, here or in GH :-)

Nice examples! Mind if I steal them for a preso I'm giving next week..

This is very similar to the Coverage requirements Discovery use case of the DaVinci Project?

Doesn't this proposal also, mostly, duplicate a service that NCPDP is defining?

Re: NCPDP, We discussed this a bit on the Argonaut call last week. It might, but the scope is pretty squarely aligned with CDS Hooks. I'd be curious to know more about the NCPDP approach; do you have a link @Isaac Vetter ?

Re: Coverage Requirements (http://hl7.org/fhir/us/davinci-crd/2018Sep/index.html), it's very closely aligned, and seems like the right place to start. If we can describe how to return the basic pricing info (required by the CMS proposal) and define a subset of the CRD scope for consistent EHR vendor support, that'd sound like a pretty good outcome to me @Kalyani Yerra .

Hey Josh! I _think_ that NCPDP is planning on voting on their RTPB (Real Time Prescription Benefit) specification at their February, 2019 meeting. If that happens and the spec successfully ballots, then it would be possible to be published sometime in CY 2019.

There is a draft IG available upon registering a free account at NCPDP -

1. Create an account on the NCPDP Collaborative site
2. Upon logging in, drill into the MC: Maintenance and Control work group
3. Then the Real Time Prescription Benefit Standard Task Group
4. Then the 20181205 Real Time Prescription Benefit Standard IG draft
